Favre leads Packers to win over Broncos

Favre threw an 82-yard touchdown strike to Jennings in overtime to give the Packers a 19-13 victory over the Broncos on Monday night. The Broncos had sent the game into overtime on Elam’s 21-yard field goal as regulation time expired. However, after the Packers won the toss and opted to receive the ball, the veteran quarterback took over. On the 1st play after the kick-off, Brett Favre connected with Greg Jennings at about the Broncos 40-yard line and the wide receiver sped into the end zone to give the Packers their 6th victory in 7 starts.

Chad Pennington Out and Clemens In

It has been officially stated that Chad Pennington is out as the New York Jets starting quarterback was replaced by Clemens for this week’s match against the Washington Redskins. This was a long time coming but it was probably only a couple of days too late. Regardless, Mangini made the right move today thus avoiding a week’s worth of media circus: he announced the switch at the first possible moment. Mangini has made this decision not based on singling out Chad Pennington for where they were, but based on the fact that Mangini thinks Kellen had earned that opportunity.

Jaguars’ Quinn Gray wins first NFL start 24-23 over Buccaneers

Gray is not annoyed by all the talk about how the Jacksonville Jaguars could sink because of the player’s inexperience. The rarely used quarterback is 1-0 after beating the Buccaneers 24-23 in his 1st National Football League start Sunday. That’s all that matters to Gray and Jacksonville (5-2) as they try to stay afloat while David Garrard is recovering from a sprained left ankle expected to keep Quinn in the lineup for up to 4 weeks. Quinn Gray overthrew a large number of open receivers and only passed for a hundred yards. He had a crucial thirteen-yard completion to Wilford on third-and-six, then finished an 8-play, 53-yard drive with an eight-yard TD throw to Jones to put the Jaguars ahead for good.

New England Patriots Bound for 19-0 and Set New NFL Scoring Record

The New England Patriots’ dominance has started to gather historical weight and register in our collective consciousness. We have started to compare them with record-breaking NFL teams from the past, like the 1972 Miami Dolphins of 17-0 perfect season fame, and the 1998 Minnesota Vikings (they set the NFL’s single-season scoring record of 556 points en route to a 16-2 record). It often feels like the Patriots score whenever they feel like it.

Indianapolis Beat Jacksonville 29-7 to Remain 1 of 2 Unbeaten NFL Teams

The Colts beat the Jaguars 29-7 on the road yesterday to remain one of 2 undefeated teams in the NFL. Manning threw 1 touchdown pass and ran for another score as Indianapolis became the 3rd franchise in NFL history to start 3 straight seasons with a 6-0 record, joining the 1929-31 Packers and 1999-2001 Rams. In addition to staying unbeaten, Indianapolis prevented Jacksonville from taking over 1st place in the AFC’s South Division. Jacksonville is tied with the Titans (4-2) for 2nd place in the division.

Titans Kicker Hits NFL-record 8 Field Goals

The Tennessee Titans kicker Bironas made an NFL-record 8 field goals, and the team needed every one of them to beat the Texans 38-36 yesterday. Rob Bironas made a 29-yarder as time expired, lifting Tennessee, 4-2, to win. The kick ruined Tennessee’s comeback. Houston, 3-4, scored 29 points in the 4th quarter, which had a wild finish. Tennessee tight end Putzier made a seven-yard touchdown catch with less than two minutes remaining cutting the lead to 35-29.

Atlanta Gives the Ball to Leftwich

Joey Harrington was replaced by Byron Leftwich as the Falcons’ starting quarterback. The team’s coach Bobby Petrino said yesterday that he was planning to keep Byron Leftwich as his starter for the rest of the current season, as he hopes to spark an offense that has struggled without Michael Vick, who had been suspended.

Atlanta offense failed to score off 3 New York turnovers Monday night. New York won, 31-10, dropping the falcons to 1-5. Bobby Petrino indicated that Leftwich might have played against New York if he had not missed much practice time a week before with his sprained ankle.

The Tennessee Titans quarterback Young rested his strained right quadriceps by watching practice yesterday, leaving this work to the backup Collins. Jeff Fisher said Vince Young would be day to day and might not temporarily practice as Tennessee (3-2) prepare to visit Vince Young’s hometown team, the Texans (3-3).

The rookie Edwards is going to make his 3rd straight start Sunday when the Bills play host to the Ravens, leading to further questions about whether J. P. Losman is ever going to get his job back. Dick Jauron, the team’s coach, made the announcement yesterday, saying he would not commit to a full-time starter beyond this weekend.

The NFL reinstated Koren Robinson, the Green Bay wide receiver, yesterday. It was in fact the 1st day Koren was eligible to return from his 1-year suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. He had also petitioned for reinstatement to Commissioner Roger Goodell meeting with him earlier this week.
