Vick Saga Continues

Michael Vick is still in trouble. He is coming to the end of his dogfighting sentence and is expected to be released from the Kansas prison sometime towards the end of May. There is some question about whether they will be able to put him in a halfway house during the time right afterwards, because there isn’t a lot of space in those. Instead, he would be under home surveillance.  His lawyer, however, thinks that he will be put in a halfway house anyway. In any event, he has also filed for bankruptcy in Virginia and will have to take care of that deal as best as he can. The judge in that case wants him to appear before the court there before his jail term is up. This poses some difficulties that they are trying to iron out at the moment.

Without Warner?

Kurt Warner apparently wants to stay in Arizona into the future. Arizona apparently wants Warner to stay in Arizona. What of it? He’s still facing free agency in just a matter of days. He is among the top tier of quarterbacks in the league and can command a fairly heft paycheck over the next year or two. But there aren’t that many teams looking for a QB at the moment, and fewer still that are willing to put that much money down. Taking Warner out of his element in Arizona might not be the best thing for anyone though. He may not play very well in the north or in the NFC, which seem to be the major teams that are looking for a new quarterback now. I think it’s going to be exciting to see what happens in the end, but it looks like he’ll probably sign with Arizona again, maybe just after seeing what other options are available to him.

Complex World

The NFL world is rather complicated at the moment. We are now in the offseason throes of different exciting trades and deals and so on. It’s a bit of a tough situation to explain what people are working on. The draft is on its way right now, and so many of the teams are openly speculating about what kinds of players each team needs. Now it’s going to be an interesting thing for us to take a look at what then end up getting. Franchise tags are being placed on certain players, just to try to get the player rosters that they are aiming to get. Keep an eye on the NFL website to track the changes.

Favre: The End?

Brett Favre is moving on. So he says anyway. It’s getting a little tedious to have him retire or act like he’s going to retire after every season. The Packers got sick of it. The Jets? We’ll see how this ends up. Apparently, Favre has decided that it’s over. The New York Times really took it to him this weekend, when they wrote about him that “he came back for the wrong reasons.” It’s like he was a lover who’d been snubbed by his girl. He started dating an acquaintance of her, to show what she was missing out on. The problem is that this doesn’t usually last all that long. So he played really well at first, but it’s hard to really keep that kind of performance up unless you really want to play for something else. Anyway, stay tuned. He may decide to show up at training camp, looking for a real comeback.

Offseason

Now that the offseason has begun, it’s time to look at the kinds of moves that people might be making this year. Kurt Warner may have only a little while to go in Arizona. Many of his offensive coaching staff has moved on to another place in the last couple weeks. He may be looking for another place to go. Matt Cassel may stay in New England or he may go somewhere else for a nice deal. The question there is whether Tom Brady will be back next season or not. It’s all getting complicated. All the teams are trying to improve their lineups for next season, and they’re starting now! It’s going to be an exciting offseason with lots of movement. Keep an eye on this upcoming year and on the moves your favorite team is going to make.

Roethlisberger

Ben Roethlisberger, the Super Bowl winning quarterback, has revealed that he played the Super Bowl with broken ribs. In the AFC championship game, he had been bashed good and hard in the back and ended up with a broken rib or so. Coach Tomlin had claimed during the week before the Super Bowl that his QB was just fine, no broken anything. He was seen stretching out a lot during the game and during practices. Ben says he’s happy he didn’t get hit too hard during the game, and they couldn’t have done much of anything for his ribs anyway. So he figured he might as well play, just suck it up and play through the pain. It’s cool to think of how strong-willed that is to keep playing with a fairly tough injury!

Pro Bowl

The Pro Bowl is going to be played this weekend. I don’t want to write too much about it, because it kind of speaks for itself. But It’s going to be a really fun game. There are some great teams that shined very brightly, and some players that have finally come into their own this year. You’ll have to watch it and see what happens. SB

The Super Bowl! What a fun game that was yesterday. We saw an impressive game with lots of classic plays. We saw the Pittsburgh Steelers play some pretty good clean football, aside from a few plays that they messed up (like the safety) and they came through in the clutch. The Arizona Cardinals had a really exciting game too. They held the Steelers down for much of the game and then they came back to take the lead near the end of the 4th quarter. That’s when the Steelers came back and got an exciting TD in the corner of the endzone. It had to be reviewed but it made it just fine.
