Denver Resigns 2009 Sack Leader Elvis Dumervil

Elvis Dumervil is getting his reward for being the NFL’s best pass rusher in 2009. The Denver Broncos announced that the 26-year-old outside lineback/defensive end has signed a six-year $61.5 million deal with the team. Dumervil thrived n the Broncos 3-4 defense last season, leading the NFL with 17 sacks.  The University of Louisville product is listed at only 5′11, but is devastatingly quick off the ball. The player now has his contract settled in time to join his teammates at the beginning of Broncos training camp next Monday. Dumervil signed a bigger contract then fellow NFL pass rushers Jarred Allen and DeMarcus Ware. Since entering the NFL in 2006, Dumervil has recorded 43 sacks. In 2009, Dumervil made his first Pro Bowl and was a first-team All Pro selection.

Cutler Still Upset

Jay Cutler of the Broncos is still in the news. A few weeks ago, he was sore about the fact that Denver coach Josh McDaniels was looking at Matt Cassel as a possible addition to the team. Cutler is the starter and wanted to keep that position. There was a very public dispute that the two had, since McDaniels is new from New England and Cutler was informed beforehand that the offense wouldn’t be changing in any particular way. Over the weekend, Cutler, McDaniels and the GM (and various representatives of them) met up and had a discussion. Cutler didn’t like the result of the meeting and his agent has officially asked Denver for a trade. If he is traded, it’s not clear where he would go. And who would throw for Denver. It’s getting to be a complicated problem for them.
