New England Wins Battle of Unbeatens

patriots.pngJust once we’d like to see Bill Belichick admit that he has been running up the score for many weeks to stick it to the people calling him out during Spygate. Just once we’d like him to comment on the notion that this New England team might be the best in the League history, might just be the 1st unbeatable team in a quarter of a century years. New England is proud to have one of the best quarterbacks in the League in Tom Brady, one of the best wide receivers in Randy Moss, and many more. We all know the players. But what they gained last Sunday might be nearly as important. It is home field advantage in a potential AFC Championship game rematch with Indianapolis.

New England Wins Over Indianapolis With Late Rally

There were thirteen National Football League games on Sunday, however, the only one that we cared about was played in Indianapolis. Fortunately, it did not disappoint. Brady rallied New England from ten points down in the 4th quarter to knock off Indianapolis 24-20 and keep the Patriots as the only undefeated team in the League. New England’s defense sealed the deal, recovering a Manning fumble with 2:25 to go. Taking advantage of a 55-yard pass from Brady to Moss, New England trimmed the lead to 3 on a 3-yard touchdown reception by Welker. After Indianapolis punt, the Patriots drove right down the field again, ended the drive and the game, on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Brady to Faulk with 3:15 to play.

Indianapolis and New England Meet in NFL’s Game of the Year

Sunday’s game can be called the Game of the Century or a pseudo-Super Bowl. Whatever you choose will work.

Sunday’s match is simply a precursor to what everybody is expecting to witness again in January: the rematch. While teams contend this is merely another November match, and an important one that could determine ramifications of the playoff, everyone else is building it up, with good reason. The Colts and the Pats are the latest two unbeaten teams have ever met in the National Football League. Indianapolis is 7-0, and New England 8-0.

There is also the classic coaching story line: Squeaky clean Tony Dungy, author of a Number 1 best-selling book and seemingly everyone’s favorite coach, again meets Bill Belichick, who has been accused of running up the score on opponents. There is also the headline attraction between NFL 2 marquee quarterbacks, Peyton Manning, the single-season record-holder for touchdown passes, versus 3-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady, who is ready to shatter Peyton’s record.

We can’t but mention the possibility of a win eventually earning home-field advantage in the playoffs and the match has more drama than anything this side of the Super Bowl.

Both teams have won 4 of the recent 6 Super Bowls and they know the difference between a postseason match and a regular-season game.

The Colts and the Patriots have met 7 times since splitting up as division rivals in 2002. New England won the1st four, Indianapolis the last 3. Each has won 1 conference championship game against the other, and while some of the names have changed, the key ones, like Manning and Brady, are still around.

New England Patriots Bound for 19-0 and Set New NFL Scoring Record

The New England Patriots’ dominance has started to gather historical weight and register in our collective consciousness. We have started to compare them with record-breaking NFL teams from the past, like the 1972 Miami Dolphins of 17-0 perfect season fame, and the 1998 Minnesota Vikings (they set the NFL’s single-season scoring record of 556 points en route to a 16-2 record). It often feels like the Patriots score whenever they feel like it.
